ABOUT TROY
Troy Coughlin Jr., the son of three-time Pro Mod world champion Troy Coughlin Sr., grandson of drag racing Hall of Fame member Jeg Coughlin Sr. and nephew of teammate and five-time Pro Stock world champion Jeg Coughlin Jr., began his drag racing career at just eight years old. Troy Jr. got his start in the NRHA Jr. Dragster Racing League, a steppingstone for some of the most celebrated drivers in the sport.
At just 17 years old, Troy Jr. began competing in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Super Comp category. In 2009 he earned his first national event victory in Super Comp at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and just one year later the phenom triumphed at one of the most prestigious events in the sport, the NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. In 2013, he earned the first of his four NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 3 championships.
In 2015, Troy Jr. followed in his father’s footsteps competing as his teammate in the Pro Mod class. He would win the coveted Pro Mod Rookie of The Year award with three semifinal appearances and a ninth place points finish.
Troy Jr. would take on the Top Fuel class in 2017 competing in 17 events before switching to Top Alcohol dragster in 2018. He would go onto win back-to-back regional championships in 2018, with four wins and a fourth-place finish in the national points standings, and in 2019 when he went to 11 final rounds with five victories.
Troy Jr. made his official Pro Stock debut as a member of the Elite Motorsports team during the COVID-19 abbreviated 2020 season. He’d finish 13th in the points standings with a runner-up finish. In 2021 he’d earn his first No. 1 qualifying position and in 2022 he would breakthrough for his first professional victory. Troy Jr. would finish the season with back-to-back victories in Seattle and Topeka for a fourth place points finish.
Troy Jr. tallied his third and fourth wins in 2023 racing to victory at the season opening Gatornationals and the final national event at Bandimere Speedway in Denver ending the season fifth in points.
Both at and away from the racetrack, Troy Jr. is a family man. With most of his family involved in racing, his two passions go hand-in-hand. He and his wife Brenna are already grooming their daughter Aubrey for drag racing success. The toddler competes in the Baby Walker Nationals, hosted for children of professional racers during downtime at select national events. Aubrey won the first ever Baby Walker Nationals in Houston in 2022.
